About this deal

Again, the romance was the front runner for me, rather than the plot as I feel like I knew what was going to happen. But I am definitely going to be reading book two! I need to see how this unfolds!!! Estrella is on the run from the Fae and she's helped by Caelum, a man who saves her from the Wild Hunt. But time is running out. if you are looking for a new fantasy book where humans are at the mercy of the fae and a romance is influenced by a bond, then this is everything you will want! its predictable, but entertaining. which is exactly what i expected this to be. I will breakdown my reasoning for rating this book a 3.5 star-rating although it started out with a 4.

The main issue is that other aspects of the book were not as solidly structured as they should have been to make a great story, which made it hard to get invested in the characters or the plot. Besides that, the extraneous, repetitive things that drag on and on for about 60% of the whole book caused me to skim through it. More so, "THE SEXUAL EXHIBITIONS AND THE PUBLIC SHOWING OFF" caught me totally off guard; I wasn't expecting to find these scenes. Frankly I'm never a fan of this kind of sexual stuff, so it was a downright unpleasant read for me. Human or vampire, the rules of survival are the same: never trust, never yield, and always – always – guard your heart. everyone wants to unfold their hidden powers for corrupt ageold lifenotions such as money-making and business. There is so much mystery and ways book 2 can go! The cliffhanger is INSANE and I need book 2 in my hands immediately next week 😭 What Lies Beyond the Veil, the first must-read book in the dark fantasy Of Flesh & Bone Series from USA Today bestselling author Adelaide Forrest writing as Harper L. Woods is available now!Meet Estrella. She's conscientious. She's protective. And she's angry at how life has constantly given her the short end okay if you loved From Blood and Ash& ACOTAR but wanted it darker, then this is the book for you. the concept of a veil separating mortals from the fae is interesting. in this universe, all the histories and war stories paint the fae as evil creatures. this book is a bit slow but I pushed through hoping it would set up a lot of amazing stuff for future books Then, we died on their swords. All of that changes the day the Veil shatters, unleashing the fae upon our world once again. The magic of faerie marks those of us they mean to take, but the Mist Guard protecting Nothrek will kill us all before they let the fae have us. There's no choice but to flee everything I've ever known, not if I want to live to see my twenty-first birthday as a free woman. The King really was something else in this, also the whole "lost purity thing" and now won´t be able to get married is quite sexist, but hey, like I said, I feel like this is middle age times. This was a really enjoyable read. I loved the world building in this book, it feels like it is set in the middle age with the whole book feeling a bit like ACOTAR from the start. The FMC Estrella kind of reminds me of Feyre in the beginning with her wandering the forest at night, which is forbidden by the king.

it wasn’t a TERRIBLE book, but it definitely wasn’t amazing either. it was pretty much the walmart version of acotar and fbaa soooo yeah. i did really enjoy it for the first 40% before it started to fall flat for me, so i’m not sure if i’ll be reading the next book in the series. (2.5⭐️) When you first meet Estrella, you see her internal battle of meeting the expectations society sets vs. what she truly wants to do. It’s easy to presume she is meek and naive, but slowly through the book she starts to understand the history of her people more and finds her strength and courage. I was itching for us to meet Caelum and once we do, he is full of mystery, filthy thoughts that he shares openly and honestly some of the swooniest lines ever. He calls her my star and little one 🫠 What I enjoyed about the main character was that she had insecurities, she had been through trauma and abuse and the way she saw the world and her self was refreshing. It was realistic to see her get jealous and anxious, and wonder if SHE was good enough for Caelum. Rather than being super self absorbed. This book has been on my TBR for so long because I wasn’t quite sure if it would live up to the hype surrounding it. Im going to list its flaws with the astrix of *i saw the shortcomings and literally did not give a sh*t.The book starts off so well. The first five chapters are well written and interesting. It hyped me up so much. This is what happened afterwards- the author lost the plot. She didn't know how to carry the characters, they're just going along doing nothing but smirking at each other occasionally. The book basically felt like one huge filler. There's literally nothing of substance happening for about 75% of the book. The pacing was so incredibly slow, I had to take so many breaks in between 🥲 The world building is incredibly weak and there's little clarity. The spice is written with heart, the romance is written with heart, but the rest comes across as bland. ALSO, at some point, he’s like ive been very accommodating with you, letting you choose if you want me or not. TF IS THAT?? If you have to mention it like that, it makes it all invalid. You’ve manipulated her into saying yes?? That’s the vibe it gave. And she just falls for that. OMG UGHHH ILL STRANGLE THIS MAN I stepped in front of the High Priest, bowing my head forward in submission as my mother sobbed behind me. Her wails echoed through the gardens, each one striking against my heart.

Estrella is one of the Fae Marked, and is being hunted. She needs to survive, so has to, she’s been through too much to die like this. But then she meets Caelum, another Fae Marked. She can’t trust anyone, but without him she might not survive the winter. And with him, she might not survive her own heart or whatever it is that she sees lurking behind his eyes. The Veil that protects the human realm from the fae realm collapsed, the fae are now swarming the humans lands in search of their mates. The humans call them “Fae Marked”Here’s the thing about this book–it’s predictable. The “big reveal” at the end… not so big. It was obvious from the first time the two main characters meet. That predictability, however, I don’t think was altogether accidental. For nearly 400 years, the Veil has protected us from the Fae of Alfheimr. In their absence, our lives have shifted from decadence and sin to survival and virtue under the guidance of the New Gods. I've spent my entire life tending to the gardens next to the boundary between our worlds, drawn to the shimmering magic like a moth to the flame. The characters were not lovable. I wouldn’t say at all, because I did finish the book, but they were quite annoying. I like my intestines in my stomach and not shoved into my lungs. You just keep that thing away from me."

Now, my biggest issue with this book is the time they spent running away. At first I was fine with it because I was waiting for what the next chapter will lead up to but then it took more time and I was waiting for a change of scenario. It was just the two of them most of the time and their dialogue. I received this book for free from Social Butterfly PR in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. What Lies Beyond the Veil (Of Flesh & Bone #1) by Harper L. Woods, Adelaide Forrest Because life isn’t always tidy. We don’t always have the answers we want, and love isn’t always pretty,”I will note that there are definitely a lot of similarities between What Lies Beyond the Veil and FBAA and ACOTAR. However, I do not think this takes away from the very essence of the story that Woods' is telling us. Overall, it had great potential but unfortunately failed to deliver. Alas, if the author had developed more before publishing, it would have been a 5-star book for me without any doubt. The romance between Estrella and Caelum was definitely impotent. In the end, their romance was too much for my liking, but it fit the story. I just don’t like those rude and sexist things Caelum says sometimes. And it definitely didn’t match the Caelum we first met either. ALSO, at some point, he’s like ive been very accommodating with you, letting you choose if you want me or not. TF IS THAT?? If you have to mention it like that, it makes it all invalid. You’ve manipulated her into saying yes?? That’s the vibe it gave. And she just fall Adelaide always had a love for reading and writing that she cultivated with years of passion and growth before finally publishing earlier this year.
