About this deal

It may be a little slow paced by modern standards, but the languidness of this study of character and nature is well served by a respectful and careful restoration.

Maybe they have a point, but if we stick to the birds and the bees and the deer in the woods, Bambi isn't warping anybody's consciousness. Bambi also captures the magic of young love, knowingly acknowledging that among children, the girls are always more hip to what's happening. The single Blu-Ray disc for Bambi has a whole bunch of new bonus features, as well as a full "Classic DVD Bonus Features" section porting over all the extras from the previous DVD release, 2005's "Platinum Edition. In 'Bambi 2 - The Great Prince of the Forest' (2005) Bambi (voice of Alexander Gould) reunites with his father, The Great Prince (Patrick Stewart), who must now raise the young fawn and teach him the way of the forest.

When Bambi gets in a fight with another stag, the sky comes alive with their passion, becoming imbued with the redness of their anger. The only pieces missing are a look at the restoration process, a short history lesson of the year the film was released (1942), and a preview of Bambi II--certainly not essential! We see the birth of a young deer, follow him through childhood to adolescence to adulthood, all in the span of 71 minutes of a movie. This extra, presented by Patrick Stewart, draws on transcripts that Disney himself had made of every creative meeting during the making of the film. The cute critters of Bambi are of course not realistic, but their animated similarities to humans enable possibilities of personal identification that don't exist with "human" characters - which in drama are also artificial creations. There are good pieces on the restoration and Disney's artwork archive that will interest many viewers. The story follows young male deer Bambi from his birth and woodland childhood with friends Thumper the rabbit and Flower the skunk, through to his ascendancy into the tall, antlered Prince of the Forest. The animated story of Bambi tells of a young deer hailed as the ‘Prince of the Forest’ at his birth.
