About this deal

Incorporate resistance—To control the speed, you need to incorporate a resistance in the supply wire. The mobo header needs to alter the input voltage on Pin #2 from the +12VDC to about +5VDC.

Turn off automatic mode—If you notice that your fan runs slow and you want to change the speed, then turn it off. Switch off the automatic fan control on your BIOS. It will keep your fans running at full speed. By selecting the fans, you can make the necessary adjustments as you please. As you make these adjustments, you will see some activities on a responsive curve on the right side of the screen. After that, you can slow your fan speed in real-time and set it to alert you when the temperature reaches a certain point.

You may have to press a special key before the computer loads up fully—for example, the F2, F10, or DEL button. Your computer will probably tell you what button to push on the screen during the boot-up process. Some makers have reported solid results with a 40 x 10 mm fan like the ever-popular Noctua, but many report heat creep issues that can lead to clogging and filament extrusion. Lower voltage—By dropping the voltage across the series, you automatically reduce the power reaching the supply pin. As a consequence, you lower the speed of your Noctua fan. If your computer is browsing or performing other non-demanding tasks, you can lower the speed and temperature range and make your device quiet. If you don’t want to do it manually, the program offers automatic fan speed. Fan noise (like everything else) is measured in decibels (or dBA), and the smaller the number, the quieter the fan. If noise is important, prioritize a fan with a low decibel level, or one with several modes you can switch between, so you’ll have quiet options without sacrificing performance when you need it. Also, as we said before, larger fans can spin more slowly, and therefore more quietly, while still moving lots of air, so it’s probably a good idea to get the largest fans your case can hold.

For clarity and easier navigation, we’ve divided our Ender 3 fan upgrade recommendations into four sections, one for each of the printer’s four main fan types. Ender 3 Part Cooling Fan Upgrade You can also turn off fan sensors and (if the option exists) choose the [Disabled] mode on speed settings. Aside from the noisy mainboard, much of the noise comes from the fans dotted around the printer. An Ender 3 fan upgrade can drastically reduce the decibel output, a must-have quality-of-life improvement if you’re a regular user. Better Bridging, Overhangs, and Overall Print Quality The correct level of cooling also depends on your aims– less results in stronger prints while more generally leads to a high-quality finish. It is the only free software that allows you to set the speed for each fan individually. You will also be able to see the temperatures for all fans, speed, and the water temperature of your AIO cooler.

The Overclockers Difference

Here’s a list of recommended quiet Ender 3 fan upgrades, which strike a good balance between noise levels and airflow: Product line and colour scheme: In addition to the standard line of premium-quality quiet fans that is easily recognisable by the signature brown colour scheme, Noctua offers 3 dedicated product lines for specific demands: There are quite a few options when it comes to fan size (40 x 10 mm, 40 x 20 mm, or 50 x 15 mm); simply make sure you choose a suitable mounting system. It’s compatible with all 40×10/20 mm fans, though the project was initially conceived to pair best with Noctua parts.

The most prevalent method to control the speed of the Noctua fan is through PWM (Pulse Width Modulation). Performance and application-type considerations for 120mm fans (airflow vs static pressure): In the 120mm range, Noctua offers the NF-A12x25 that provides superior performance in all applications and models such as the NF-F12 and NF-S12A or NF-P12 redux and NF-S12B redux that are focused solutions for either airflow or pressure-demanding applications. See this guide for further explanations. Note that there is no distinction between airflow and pressure-focused models in all other sizes. Except for the NF-F12, NF-P12 and NF-S12 lines, all other Noctua fans are designed to provide optimal results in both types of applications. In particular, Noctua’s A-series models are universal solutions that are excellent both as case fans and on coolers and radiators. Here are a few viable options, all of which have a far lower decibel output than the mainboard fan that comes with the Ender 3:As a general rule, 100% fan speed is recommended for PLA and PETG, though the initial layer fan speed should be set to 0% to allow for the first layers to properly adhere to the build surface, free of warping or shrinking issues. There are several steps to changing the speed profile in BIOS, so let’s go through each step so that you know exactly how to do it. What Is BIOS?
